Kia ora! We’re the kids behind Get A Grip

We’re five kids from Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, with a big dream and even bigger love for basketball. We’re aged between 6 and 10, on a mission to make sports safer, more fun, and way less slippery.

Who are we?

We’re a bunch of besties who love playing basketball. Whether it’s shooting hoops at school, practising at the local gym, or watching our hero Steven Adams dominate the NBA, basketball is our jam. But there’s one thing we all hate: slipping on the court. Know the feeling? You’re about to make a big play, and then… boom, you’re on the floor. Not cool.

So, we decided to do something about it. That’s how Get A Grip was born. We’ve created a grip spray that stops your shoes from sliding all over the place. It’s safe, non-toxic, and works like magic. We’ve tested it ourselves (a lot), and trust us, it’s a total game-changer.

Our big dream

We’ve got two big goals. First, we want to see Get A Grip sprayed across every indoor sports court in New Zealand. From school gyms to pro arenas, we want every player to feel confident and safe on the court. And second (this one’s a bit of a personal dream) we want to meet Steven Adams. He’s our hero, and we reckon he’d love our spray.

But it’s not just about us. We want to help other kids (and adults too) play their best and have fun without worrying about slipping. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, we’ve got your back. Or more importantly, your shoes.

Bringing our dreams to life

Our dreams got a massive boost when we entered SquareOne’s Dragons’ Den competition, and won! Taking out the top prize of a $10,000 business startup package was better than a slam dunk. With the money, we’re getting help to invest in production, level up our marketing, and make the meaningful connections we need to succeed faster than the speed of light. It’s been a total game-changer for us, and we’re so grateful for the opportunity to take Get A Grip to the next level.

What’s next for us?

Right now, we’re working hard to make our dream come true. We’re perfecting our spray, designing the bottles, and learning how to run a business. It’s a lot to take in, but we’re loving every second of it. We’ve even been practising our pitch for when we get to show off Get A Grip to the big leagues.

We’re also spending heaps of time on the court, testing our spray and improving our game. After all, if we’re going to meet Steven Adams, we need to bring our A-game. Both as basketball players and young entrepreneurs.

Why we’re doing this

At the end of the day, we’re five kiwi kids who want to make a difference. We love basketball, we love our community, and we want to help everyone play safer and better. Get A Grip isn’t just a product to us, it’s our way of giving back to the sport we love and the people who support us.
